28. HUMMUS

A tasty dip of chick peas , yoghurt, cumin, lemon & sesame seeds served with bread, vegetables or crackers.

Before you begin:
Kitchens can be dangerous so make sure you have just read the Kitchen Safety Checklist.
Check with Mum or Dad that you are allowed to cook.
So the food doesn’t get any germs wash your hands with warm soapy water and dry them well.
Read the recipe through before you begin and get out all the equipment and ingredients you will need.
Don’t forget to have fun, and the best cooks ALWAYS clean up their mess.

Makes: 1 cup

Here’s what you need:
• 1 clove garlic, crushed
• 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
• 300g can Edgell Chick Peas, drained
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice
• 1/3 cup low fat natural yogurt
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
• Toasted wholemeal pita bread and vegetable sticks to serve

Here’s how to do it:

1. Place all ingredients into a food processor and blend until mixture is smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
2. Spoon hummus into serving dish and serve with toasted pita triangles and vegetable sticks.

Setting Up Time: 5 minutes

HOT TIP: For a colorful alternative, simply add 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves at Step 2. Serve as a dip or a tasty sandwich spread.
