3. Fairies Cake Step by Step

 


Before you begin:

Kitchens can be dangerous so make sure you have just read the Kitchen Safety Checklist.
Check with Mum or Dad that you are allowed to cook.
So the food doesn’t get any germs, wash your hands with warm soapy water and dry them well.
Read the recipe through before you begin and get out all the equipment and ingredients you will need.
Don’t forget to have fun, and the best cooks ALWAYS clean up their mess.

Here’s what you need
• 1 x 30cm square cake
• 1 x 20cm round cake
• 4 small jam rollettes
• 1 quantity icing
  (see recipe below)
• Mint leaves, freckles,
  candy-coated chocolate buttons,
  raspberries, 4 lolly pops,
  1 ice-cream cone and candles.

Icing:
• 250g butter, softened
• 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
• 500g packet icing sugar
• 3–4 drops pink food colouring
• 3 tablespoons milk

 

Here’s how to do it

Step 1
Place square cake on a covered board. Sit round cake on top in the middle and place ice-cream cone on top. This is how the cake needs to be assembled. Unassemble and cover each piece with pink icing and re-assemble.

 
Step 2
Cover each jam rollette with pink icing and place one at each corner of the square cake, pressing them against the round cake.

 
Step 3
Decorate cake with lollies as shown in photograph. Finish cake with required amount of candles.

 
 

Makes: 1 birthday cake to serve approximately 24

Setting Up Time: 30 minutes.

HOT TIP: Buy prepared cake or make a 25cm square butter cake and a 15cm round butter cake (or make a 20cm square cake and cut out a round cake).
